President Trump has nominated Pearce to lead the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for the second time. Colorado U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper sits on the committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs moms, we want our children to grow up exploring the outdoors, breathing clean air, and building lifelong memories on our public lands,\u201d said <b>Sara Kuntzler, Colorado State Director<\/b> with Mountain Mamas. \u201cThat\u2019s why we strongly oppose the nomination of Steve Pearce to lead the Bureau of Land Management. His record shows a clear disregard for our environment and for protecting our public lands and the communities that depend on them. For families, these lands are not commodities to be sold off; they are classrooms, playgrounds, and a shared legacy we hope to pass on to our kids. We\u2019re grateful to Senator Hickenlooper for standing with Colorado families and the broad majority of Americans who believe our public lands must be protected, and we urge leadership at the BLM that puts our kids and future generations first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve Pearce has a long record of undermining protections for public lands and has said that he would work to \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=14rCgeMe1EE\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reverse this trend of public ownership of lands<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d In Congress, he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/114th-congress\/house-bill\/5836\/all-info\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supported efforts to transfer and sell<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> America\u2019s public lands, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmwildlife.org\/news\/representative-pearce-votes-public-lands-protection\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fighting against safeguards to prevent a sell-off<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 like that pushed by Senator Lee from Utah \u2013 to the highest bidder. Steve Pearce has also voted <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lcv.org\/roll-call-vote\/land-and-water-conservation-fund-lwcf\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">time<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> y <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lcv.org\/roll-call-vote\/land-and-water-conservation-fund\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">again<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against the Land and Water Conservation Fund, one of Colorado\u2019s and the nation\u2019s most critical parks programs.
